Anxiety and Stress

Anxiety and stress are two of the most common reasons for seeking counselling.

It is a normal reaction to what we perceive as a threatening situation, causing the adrenal glands to get us ready for ‘fight or flight’. The trouble is that in most situations today neither fight nor flight are appropriate responses!

I can help you to:

  • understand the underlying causes of your anxiety
  • identify the triggers in the present day that set it off
  • develop tailor made strategies both to manage and to prevent your anxiety
  • practise and learn new patterns of thinking, feeling and acting in order to create a calm, positive and effective you.

Are you suffering from any of these typical symptoms of anxiety or stress – physical, mental, emotional, behavioural?

Physical: pounding heart, difficulty in breathing, nausea and other digestive problems, shaking, feeling dizzy, blushing, teeth grinding, locked jaw, sleep disturbances, night sweats

Mental: inability to think straight, difficulty in making decisions, inability to concentrate, bad memory, inability to prioritise or organise effectively

Emotional: feeling unable to cope, feeling constantly under pressure, fear of making mistakes, feeling alone and unsupported, fear of going mad,

Behavioural: acting snappily or impatiently, being quick to blame others, being excessively tired, rushing around ineffectively, eating or drinking alcohol to excess

This is very far from being an exhaustive list. However, with professional help and support, using a variety of approaches such as Cognitive Behaviour Therapy, Mindfulness Based Stress Reduction and Relaxation Techniques you can turn your life around!
