Working in a holistic way, I believe that looking at the 'wider' you is important. I will help you to:
- look at the positives in your life (and there must be some otherwise you would not be reading this!);
- develop your innate resilience and creativity
- learn to place genuine value on yourself.
I am trained to use a variety of approaches, according to the needs of each individual client.
- Do you feel you would like to understand and come to terms with your past in order to move beyond it effectively?
Psychodynamic counselling can help you to look at your emotional ties and past in a safe and productive way. This will enable you to make long lasting changes by breaking the repetitive patterns of negative behaviour which keep you 'enslaved'.
- Are you more concerned about present day difficulties?
The cognitive behavioural (CBT) approach may note the past, but not delve into it. It is particularly useful for short term, solution-focussed counselling (6 - 20 sessions) dealing with specific issues. We will identify strategies and tools for you to use as you practise new ways of reacting and interacting with your world.
There are also many other ways we can work together, for example:
By doing role plays with me you can practise difficult situations safely first
Using a personal journal you can express and record how you are feeling, bridging the gap between sessions
Relaxation techniques will teach you to listen to your body; you will learn to deal with and prevent stress.
Most people benefit from a combination of these approaches.
This will lead to a sense of greater personal fulfilment and freedom. Life is for living, not just enduring!
